Drea Castro is an award winning producer and director, actress and community advocate whose work in film, photography, and editorial champions underrepresented voices. A 2025 Telly Award winner, she is also a 2022 Women in Film Mentee, Women Who Create alum, and recipient of the Woman of Her Word grant.

Her feature documentary Baldy for the Blind—a 13-year project following blind hikers training to summit Mt. Baldy—continues to resonate deeply within the disability community. As a filmmaker, she is developing a slate of bold, heart-driven projects including Bless starring Arianna and Darius Basco, Black Hat starring William H. Macy, and El Rey Network’s Crab, each spotlighting voices too often left out of the frame. On screen, Castro has appeared in Act of Valor, Red Light Teachers, ABC’s The Rookie, and most recently on HBO’s Emmy-nominated series The Rehearsal.

Her work as a photographer and writer has been showcased in Times Square, on the network TV One, and in publications such as Elle Magazine, Kapwa, and Run Wild. Her portraiture includes cultural icons like Lil Wayne, Eve, Raven-Symoné, Jaleel White, and Eric Benét.

Castro also serves as US Head of Production and Director of Marketing at Birns & Sawyer, fostering equity through partnerships with the Alliance of Women Directors and FilAm Creative. In 2024, she was the film festival director FilAm Creative Film Festival and now serves as its Festival Advisor and Chief Program Officer, building fellowships and programs that empower the next generation of Filipino and Southeast Asian storytellers.
