This A/W 2011 collection of 6 outfits is inspired by the biomechanical artwork of the artist H.R.Giger. Biomechanics is the application of mechanical principles to biological elements. Here I have tried to apply this principal by concentrating on the spinal chord of the skeleton and making it with metal buckles on top of the garments, creating and illusion of the a part of the skeleton coming out of the body, in order to create a futuristic, powerful yet slightly shocking look. Also the fact that the metallic structures are at the back doesnât let the viewer realize that till the time the person turns around, slightly surprising the viewer who is expecting a normal back of the outfit.
I believe in minimalism and play with the conventions by changing them and reapplying them in such a way that even though it is different than what is expected, it merges in the look, creating new conventions after a small shock. I have tried to make this black and white collection very dark and structured, by experimenting with panelling in terms of wool crepe and leather in tailoring. I have also used the tie and die technique and tried to create texture with dyeing instead of printing. Verified Credits (0)Worked with ruchika sachdeva? Share your experience and become verified!
