I'm Phillip Dye of Trench Art Productions. In addition to making documentary videos, I create art photography. Although I also photograph landscape, architecture and wildlife, much of my photography are homages to burlesque, pulp magazine covers, classic Hollywood, art history, horror films, silent movies, and film noir. I take pictures of various types of cosplay such as burlesque performers posing as historical and mythical figures, tending to the dramatic and the comic.
I like to cast models with qualifications based not only on their looks but talent and interests. If a shoot involves dance poses, I obviously look for a dancer. If I'm photographing cosplay, such as for my film noir or sci-fi fantasy shoots or my 'warrior queen' series, I try to find someone with an acting background, so he or she can get 'into character.' I always want to pair a model with a topic of her interest, whether cosplay, glamor or boudoir. I did a horror themed photoshoot with a model who was a horror movie fan, and I had a model with a belly dancing background pose for shots with a Middle Eastern setting. I have wide ranging interests, and I will certainly work with models on TFP or collaborations on ideas they have, especially for an unusual cosplay shoot. My approach is basically: If we're not having fun, it ain't art! I am absolutely, positively and most emphatically not looking for a date. Sorry, ladies (and gentlemen), I'm taken. He shared some images prior to us working together and was very detailed when it came to helping us prepare for shoot day.
