About MeKorrupt Label got its humble start when in classic punk rock tradition, artist & designer Henry Miyoshi began creating patches and selling them on the street, out of a suitcase renegade-style.Seventeen years later, Miyoshi and Korrupt are both still here, and going strong. Korrupt Label’s core artistic identity echoes gritty, old school, punk rock anarchy, a lens that Miyoshi was first exposed to through street fashion and underground music as a teenager in Hawaii. By 16 he had emancipated himself. Henry was eager for freedom, leaving for southern California. During his early adventures, he earned his design chops creating poster prints for punk bands' live shows. "Los Angeles’ non-stop party scene shaped my creative POV. I was immersed in music every waking minute,” Henry continues, “and style was entwined with music, so I started taking cues from my favorite fashion icons, including Westwood and McQueen.” Born and raised in Bangkok until he was 7 years old, it follows that Henry’s designs reflect exotic, curious and dark concepts. Steeped in Thai culture, his youth formed the bedrock of an “outsider” ethos. From these seeds he grew evocative metaphors, using notions of danger, aggression, dissent, and propaganda to provoke reaction. “Culture is diluted by disposable ‘fast fashion’, each garment an exact copy of untold thousands before it.” laments Miyoshi, "What people wear doesn’t reflect their persona, but instead spreads uniformity." In fact, there seems to be more thrist than ever for the view of artists, punks, rebels, and shitstarters -- the wellspring from which Korrupt’s dogged aesthetic is derived. Korrupt Label’s offerings are here to stay, and include stylized tee shirts, hoodies, jackets, custom work, and of course patches, each a genuine one of a kind, like Henry himself. |
