The Portrait Place newsletter is free, and is produced and written by Geoffrey K. Oram. Click on my website link (left side location), and read an issue. When you read the Portrait Place newsletter you will find a wide variety of topics that in some way reference portraiture. Mr. Oram has no contraints and will write about education, art, death, politics, trends, business, and any other topics that I regard as useful. To help the reader, Mr. Oram includes additional readings and resources for further research and study.
The Buddy Book icon (avatar) I created around 2002. I used pencil for my drawing, and a yellow pencil for the coloring. Buddy Book has glasses just like me. Buddy Book was used as my logo for my school library newsletter, which I called, The Bookman Buddy, Your Information Partner. I created the newsletter for my K-12, school teachers as a library resource to be used for lesson planning, and educational topics. My newsletter was featured in The Bookman Buddy: A School Librarian's Secret Weapon, published in Library Media Connection, v22 n5 p34, February 2004. https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ717562 My teaching career of 31 years was devoted to helping young people become outstanding citizens. Before librarianship, my photography was developing near the year 1963 just around the time when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon B. Johnson became President. As a youngster, I attempted to learned all aspects of photography and genres, but by 1970, I was focusing on portraiture as my main interest in photography. An honest statement. If I had a portraiture business I would strive for excellence, innovate, improve performance, and be relentless in enhancing client service. I don’t have a portraiture business. So maybe I don’t do those things. I just like portraiture as a creative outlet. My portraiture photography is non-commercial work in which I make no money. I am a bald-headed, eye glass wearing senior. I use professional photography standards like, call sheet, model release, hold harmless agreement, and mood boards. My studio rules are NO: drugs, smoking, alcohol, weapons and firearms, pets, violence, and any kind of illegal activity. In studio work I use a camera tethered setup with live-viewing monitor, so that models and me see images immediately. This is great for revising and improving the images as we work and collaborate together. Models get my best images which are always edited for the best possible result. Models want to be paid for their work. So do I. But, since I make no money in this creative pursuit, I cannot afford model fees like $200 per hour. And then there is the hair and makeup artist, the wardrobe/clothing designer, props/studio fees, insurance, and the list goes on and on. I can afford to pay models $50.00 per hour and maybe more if I change my mind. My job offers have a theme so models know exactly what to expect. To contact me, use the Model Mayhem "friend" method. Once we become friends you can message me through Model Mayhem. "Geoff is organized, hospitable, respectful of personal space, and passionately dedicated to his craft. It was a joy posing in his comfortable home studio and seeing just about every shot we took as the camera was tethered to a large monitor. I appreciated how every shot was carefully constructed as if we were shooting film. Geoff is a creative individual and I look forward to creating more with him!" Read less
