I am currently working between Chicago and San Diego. I create casts with a safe molding material such as alginate. This is the same material used by dentists for teeth impressions. The artist dampens your skin and hair with a water proof lotion for easy release. The molding material (alginate) then is applied to the skin/face and has the consistency of yogurt. The molding material dries very fast, about eight minutes and the total process takes about thirty minutes. Normally, the less hair, the easier removal of the mold but the artist will explain different techniques to help in the removal of the mold. For example, I can display a face cast in both full face and profile. I can create limited editions of the medallion in many different color finishes.
