I'm a classically trained painter working in Urbana.  I prefer regular work days on very long projects, the average spanning two and half months. I prefer a natural yet classical beauty, most commonly found in Bouguereau, Godward and Lefebvre.  I paint costumed portraits and nudes, aiming towards rhythm, grace and, above all, good taste.  My paintings focus not on the sexualization of the female form but her elegance and grandeur.

The hours per day and the number of days for the project are all booked in advance, and the model is paid in full at the end of every day.  I never expect models to give their time to me for free under any circumstances.  Parking, heaters, fans, bathroom facilities, cushioning, and of course coffee are always provided.  Poses range from easy to difficult, with the lengths and timing of breaks accommodated to suit those poses.  Jobs are sometimes just for me, other times for a small painting class I teach on Saturdays. 

I've worked most frequently in the last few years with Sarah Hilker (#495771), Lynda May (#1057719), and Heather Hoxsey (tragically semi-retired).  When I find models I work well with, I tend to rehire them...a lot.

Adrian Gottlieb, a figurative and portrait painter in the naturalist realist tradition, received his illustration degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, and trained in painting at Charles Cecil Studios and The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy.

Adrian Gottlieb’s works have been exhibited at the Panorama Museum in Germany,  the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art in Atlanta, Waterhouse Gallery, Galerie Michael and Brennen Gallery, and can be found in both private and public collections throughout the United States, in Europe and Scandinavia.  In spring of 2008, Gottlieb took second place in the Portrait Society of America's annual international competition for his painting entitled "Jennifer," which was featured in a subsequent article in International Artist Magazine.  This followed the previous year in which he won Best In Show in the same competition for his painting of The Director.  He also won the 2008 American Artist Magazine Cover Competition, currently on the cover of AAM's October issue and featuring his painting "The Auditor."  He then took first place in The Artist's Magazine 2008 Portrait Competition. 

He returned in 2007 from England where he spent the summer painting the commissioned portrait of Lord William Herbert, the 14th Earl of Pembroke. 

Gottlieb has exhibited his work Nimbus, Heather’s Reverie, and Obelisk in Fall as part of a group figurative exhibition at Waterhouse Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.  This was Gottlieb’s second exhibition with Waterhouse Gallery.  He was included in the “Great American Figurative Artists” exhibition in 2007 as well.  He took second place in the 2010 Portrait Society of America competition with his piece Elysian Park, which also was also featured as the front of the calendar for the Artist Magazine for 2011. 

He has been featured numerous times in American Artist Magazine, American Art Collector, The Artist Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur and will soon have his works shown in American Art and Antiques. 

Gottlieb continues to create commissions and works for his private and gallery collectors.
