Lapses of Lapis

Back in the day they wrote with a feather,
now we just meme through emotional weather.
Instead of brilliant lines from a novel or poem,
we fence like keyboard warriors from a glittering phone.

Used to be epic, used to be deep,
now it’s six-second reels and no one sleeps.
Poets wore vests and talked to the moon,
now it’s just filters and sexting at noon.

I’m not mad—nah, I’m entertained,
watching the culture go slowly insane.
Comment section’s got prophets and trolls,
while the headlines read like Mad Libs scrolls.

I’m the lady in the back with the Diet Coke,
droppin’ hot takes and inside jokes.
“Lovely,” I say, with a wink and a sigh,
as Rome burns under LED sky.

Take a minute—
nah, take a second,
before your brain gets monetized, sliced, and beckoned.
Yeats had his lapis,
we’ve got our screens.
dreams in pixels,
truth in memes.
