April 12, 2008 1:57pm I just love this portrait with its simplicity of tone and form...all the curves moving the eye to the face and holding us with your gaze. The trace of bare midriff isolates the top fabric as a form and balances the composition. The highlight at your neck, the strands of hair over the right eye, the light under the left arm are all essential, as is the fine seam line in the jeans which thrusts our eye happily upward from the lower left. Even the black edge of the seat is critical. The soft light on the lower left cheek, the delicate highlight, magical. I'm not sure I know the whispers to elicit the expression we see here from the model, but I know the feeling when it happens.
